St Arnaud, Brightwater, Havelock and Marlborough Sounds.

We took the road down to St Arnaud and Lake Rotori, another lake in the Nelson N.P.

From here we make a decision on our route back up to Picton as the roads are still majorly affected by the earthquake. We decide on a route that goes over the Golden Downs forestry and found it a delightful route. We stop over for coffee at an historic point which has very interesting notice boards on a forestry town and college that was built during the forestry's heyday, now long gone.

We enter Brightwater the birthplace of Ernest Rutherford and visit his memorial.

From here we travel back through Nelson and Havelock which is renowned for its Greenlipped Mussels.

And then back into the Marlborough Sounds and eventually back to Double bay from where we started our South Island trip.
