Bay of Islands, Haruru Falls, and Keri Keri Mission Station

After spending a couple of days with our friend Dave at Te Kuiti we head up to Auckland to take back the campervan and pick up a rental car for our final two weeks.  From Auckland we head northwards to the Bay of Islands and our home for the week, The Retreat at Paihia.  The accommodation is perfect with great views of the bay and wonderful hosts.  Our first trip out was to Haruru falls.

From there we went to the Keri Keri Mission Station, one of the early Christian settlements in NZ.

One of the original buildings is a stone grain store.

The settlement was built with the agreement of Hongi Hika whose Pa settlement overlooks the mission.

We have a look around the mission church of St James.

In the late afternoon we head along the coast to the Te Puna inlet.
