Buller Gorge and Nelson lake N.P.

We say goodbye to the west coast and head east towards Murchison and the Buller Gorge.

We took the opportunity to cross the longest swing bridge in N.Z. and took a walk up to the cascades along the Buller river.
Along the walking track there are measurements for previous flood levels, here they can rise up to twelve metres.

Being daring and as we had not done any of N.Z.s extreme sports, we took the flying fox back over the river. This turned out to be a very tame ride.

From the Buller gorge we took another white road over to see Lake Rotoroa in the Nelson lake N.P.
The lakes here are renowned for their clarity and also unfortunately for the sand flies.

We backtracked slightly and found a spot to stay the night at a scenic viewpoint near Glenhope.
