We drive back to Picton and have a look around the town before boarding our ferry to the North Island.
When we land in Wellington we head back to campsite we used earlier in our trip.

Next morning we turn right out of the campsite to take a very pretty route through the Horokini Valley. The route takes us back to the coast and head north getting views of Kapiti island on the way.
We travel all the way up to Whanganui and then head into the National park up the river valley along some very narrow a treacherous roads that were only open for a few hours a day whilst the rebuilding work carried on.
The views along this road make it worth the risk and we find a small pull in near Kornita to spend the night.
