Norway and the Arctic circle

Another early sunny start, on the road by 6.30am. Heading back to Norway along the E45 and then the E12 towards Mo i Rana.  The road took us through endless forests and lakes, each one equally beautiful in its own way. The virtual lack of traffic makes the going easy, you can take your time and drive as slowly as you like, just stopping the van on the road if you want to take pictures.  No rush, average speed between 50/60 km’s per hour, brilliant !!!!!!!

As we crossed into Norway a kindly customs officer stopped us for a chat, asking if we had any booze or cigarettes on board to which we replied we did not smoke and had a few cans of beer and a few bottles of wine. He smiled and wished us a safe journey.. We pressed on up the E06 and started to climb towards our night halt at the Polar and Arctic center in the Saltfjellet national park.

We met a bus load from the UK on a Skills whistle stop tour. We also visited the shop and met a couple of lovely young Swedes who were there to run the shop for the summer season. They were very friendly and informative and made you want to spend your money. The shop had a great array of very life like stuffed birds and animals from the region. We did not appreciate just how big a polar bear was until now.  A thunderstorm broke out and the heavens opened. We retired to the van for our evening meal and an early bed after a long drive.
