Methana

Once again into the mountains, and across to the volcanic peninsular of Methana.  It is inked to the mainland by a tiny isthmus. A sulphurous smell  hit us as we entered the town.

On the edge of town there was a large thermal bath complex, closed this time of year.

We stopped in the village square for a coffee with the local men's backgammon school.

Little lanes run around the mountainous headland down to tiny fishing harbours.

We continue to climb and on our journey had to save an old villager as he had fallen in the road.  After organising transport for him, we waved him goodbye.

We headed up towards the volcano, parked the scooter and carried on foot to the crater edge.

We think we came across the main vent which was like entering a cave, but with no bottom in sight.

All the rock in the area were very warm and from the top you could see the larva field right down to the sea edge.

On the way home we had some good views of the volcanic headland in the distance.
