Ancient Messini and Kaiafas thermal springs.

Our day today takes us to a new campsite at Olympia, not cheap but in a good location with great views of the valley and a swimming pool for Sarah.
We decide to cut across country from Pylos to visit the site of Ancient Messini on route.
This is a 4th c BC site which encompasses a village, amphitheatres, stadium and a huge gateway at the top called the Arcadia gate which the road still passes through. The lintel has fallen down or else the van would have gone no further.

We only got to see the Gateway and the castle area due to lack of parking for the Camper so we will have to revisit this on a future trip.

Just a couple of bugs from the area

From here we head back to the coast and stop for lunch at the Thermal springs at Kaiafas.
Just north of Zacharo.
We took a short stroll along the banks and were entertained by the local wildlife.

Another random bug.

One of the Terrapins took a fancy to us and popped up to say hello.

After taking our fill of the sulphurous air we continue on towards Olympia crossing the Alfios river before entering the village.
