We are heading for the Pirin Mountains, but the rain seems to be beating us. I'm sure the scenery is stunning but most of it is hidden behind the clouds. From Bansko we head towards the Rila Mountains.
and end up spending the night high up on one of the passes south of Velingrad.
The weather clears by lunchtime the next day, just in time for our visit around the Rila Monastry.
The monastery is in a wonderful setting, surrounded by the stunning Rila mountains.
The Church of the Nativity was built in 1835. The frescoes are bright and colourful.
