Today we head out of Bulgaria but before we leave we visit Belogradchik Fortress. There has been a fortress on this spot since the 1stC AD. In the 700s it was part of the Byzantine defence sytem. The current layout was built during the 14thC. The eroded rock formations form part of the buildings.
Once inside the fortress you get a better view of the surrounding area and the many rock formations. The area of the rocks is about 50km sq. It is quite stunning and a very fitting end to our Bulgaria trip for this year.
