Black Sea Coast, Balchik and Kaliakra

Further north we have reached a campsite just north of Balchik called Camping St George.  We are here to visit the palace of Queen Marie.  It was built in 1924 by King Ferdinand of Romania.  It has a wonderful gardens set just back from the beach.

Wonderful smelling roses.

Queen Sarah on her throne.

The palace is small but very homely.

The botanical gardens have an incredible display of cacti.

After lunch we head out to the rocky limestone promontory of Kaliakra.  The cliffs here are reddish in colour and at the tip is a 4thC BC  Fortress.

Aquick dip in the Black Sea for Sarah at the end of the day.
