Waitangi Treaty grounds and Wairere boulders.

This historic site is where the Treaty was signed by the Maori chiefs and the British in 1840.
We first went to the Maori meeting house where we experienced Maori greetings and songs and dances.

The war canoes were very impressive.
And the gardens were a delight.

In the afternoon we went to discover the Wairere boulders.
This river system is made up of basalt which has been formed into large boulders which now fill the river bed.
This is a very unusual geological formation.
