On a very wet morning we set off around the lake on a gravel road to Dorothy Falls and Creek.
And then on to the Hokitika Gorge
Plenty of walking today
We then carried on to Ross and old Gold mining town. We took the trail around the old mines and water races with the remains of the water cannons they used for sluicing out the gold.
Sarah was quite excited when she found a small fleck of gold in the soil. Must have been worth a fortune. Then she promptly lost it. So no new van then.
We carried on down the coast and spent the night at a Helipad by the river near Whataroa and saw our first White Heron.
