We are off on our Helicopter flight, a first for both of us.
Sarah was very fortunate and got to sit up front with the pilot.
The flight was much smoother than we had expected and very exciting from the start. We flew over to Franz Josef Glacier and up to the snow at the top where we landed for a walk about and pictures.
We then flew down the Fox Glaciers with some lovely close ups, an incredible way to see these magnificent natural features.
After the high of our flight and our inability to pay for a return trip we head off to Lake Matheson again hoping for the reflection we missed last time of Mount Cook.
There was a slight improvement but not a lot, at least we managed the walk in the dry this time.
We drove down the road to Lake Mapourika for lunch and a little more unproductive fish, but we did spot an Eel close to the pier.
Our camp for the night was at the Kapitea reservoir near Callaghans. This lovely freedom camp was part of a bird reserve right on the shores of the lake.
When we arrived we were greeted by three very friendly ducks that looked more domesticated than wild.
An hour later three youngsters arrived in a van carrying a landing net. They proceeded to feed the ducks and when they left there were only two ducks left.
