On route to Greece with Umbria highlights

We are on our way to Greece, first stop for the night is at a campsite, south of Madrid a place called Santa Elena.  Our second stop over was at Lago Resort near Nuevalos, a great place to stay to visit the spa and waterfall system.  The last day on to Barcelona with a quick look at the rock formations at Montserrat.  We board the the Barcelona ferry to Cittavechia, Italy that night.

We arrive in Italy the next evening and stay up the coast at Marina di Montalto di Castro.  Next morning we head to Umbria and en route to our campsite visit the fantastic waterfalls of Cascata della Marmore.  These waterfalls were formed by the Romans when they drained the swamp area by creating a canal which ran to the edge of the cliffs.  The flow of water is now controlled as it is part of a hydroelectric system.  Every day at 11.00am they let the water through the gates creating a magical water paradise.

From here we go to our campsite just outside Bevagna, our home for three nights.  Release the scooter from the garage ready for two days sight seeing around this area.

First trip starts just down the road at the medieval walled town of Bevagna.

From Bevagna we ride through Foligno

to the very picturesque walled town of Spello

From here we head to the hills of the Monte Subasio for a picnic.

Our final visit of the day is to Assisi, of St Francis fame.  We visited the cathedral and the church of St Francis to see his tomb.

The next day we head out on the scooter again.  Around first stop of the day will be Spoleto but we pass through the pretty town of Gualdo Cattaneo on the way.

Spoleto has a grand square with the cathedral at the bottom.  The top of the town is crested by the castle which overlooks the fine aqueduct.

Our next stop is the natural springs at Fonti Clitunno.  A lovely spot for lunch and a walk.

Our ride back to the campsite takes us through the lovely town of Trevi.

The forecast for tomorrow is rain so we decide to head down to the coast to camping Bellamare at Porto Recanti de Ancona.  We spend the night here and head for the ferry in the morning.  Ancona to Igoumenitsa.
