Koroni

From the pool at our campsite we walk down a small footpath to the beach.

 

 

 

From here it is a short walk into town, past the pretty beachfront houses.

 

The town is one of "The Eyes of Venice" built to survey and defend the shipping lanes.

At the end of the harbour we can see the Venetian castle on the hill, it was built in 1206.

 

 

We climb through the narrow streets of the town, with many houses still retaining their wrought iron balconies and shutters from their original build in the 1830's.

 

 

After entering the gate to the castle we continue up the cobbled street to the convent Timiou Prodromou. This convent now only houses five nuns.

 

Just inside the grounds of the convent is a Byzantine chapel.

 

The walled gardens are beautifully kept.

 

There is a small gift shop in the garden where the nuns sell their own craftwork and homemade preserves.  After being greeted by the nuns with Turkish delight we readily made a few purchases.

 

We walked around the walls and bastions of the castle before heading back into town for some ice cream.
