Today we set out to discover the delights of outer Mani. From Gythio we head over to Oitylo on the west coast. The first bay we come to is Limeniou Bay.
The villages are still Maniot villages with the tower houses and also full of many early Byzantine churches.
We stop for coffee at the quaint harbour village of Agios Nikolaos.
From here we back track down a small lane hugging the coast and arrive at Selinitsis bay.
Then further along we meet some fellow campers and stop for a drink with them at Trachilas Bay.
The road finishes at Trachilas so we head back investigating a cave in the cliff side, which looks out over Palotina Bay.
Carrying on northwards we reach Kardamili, and then we head inland getting views of the vyros gorge as we climb.
The small villages up in the foothills are very pretty.
We end up at the village of Milea before heading back down to the coast.
The last stop on our way back to the campsite was a small divert up a rather steep and rough track. Rob was the pillion at this point but after the first hairpin bend the sound of his squeals prompted me to stop and let him drive instead, (he admits he is not a good passenger). At the top we reached the castle of Kelefa, built in 1670 by the Ottomans.
