Just down from our campsite is the burial mound of the battle of Marathon.
The mound contains the remains of 192 Athenians killed in the battle which was a massive victory for the Greeks.
We drive from the coast towards Mount Parnitha passing by Lake Marathonus.
This Marble dammed reservoir used to be the main water supply for Athens.
From here we start the climb up to the summit of a very Barren Mt Parnitha with views of the city od Athens below.
