Castelo de Vide

Took a walk over the hill into Castelo de Vide along a Medieval road . The town has a nice Moorish castle and a Jewish quarter with a typical washing area as in the last picture of this set. 

Camping Pomarinho

Lovely campsite run by a Dutch couple in the middle of nowhere, near Castelo de Vide and Marvao in the Serra de Mamede.
The lake had terrapins and Iberian frogs. A great spot for a long relaxing stay and walking.

Elvas

Next stop was Elvas, a fantastic Walled city. The approach is spectacular with a 16 century Viaduct spanning the valley, the biggest we have seen. The whole city is Fortified and the walls are incredible. These are Napoleonic and are are in excellent condition. Elavs is also surrounded by sattelite Forts.Well worth a visit.
The Jewish quarter is worth a walk as well as the British cemetry.

Megalith tour

We took a ride on the Scooter round a few of the Megalithic sites in the Evora area. Most were up dirt track roads but were well worth visiting. The Portugese do not seem to capitalise on these sites and they are not manicured at all and no charges made for the visit. The Chapel was built around a Dolmen.

Evora

Moved on to Evora a walled city and Unesco site. It was a very rainy day and we walked round the city and visited the Se ( Cathedral) and its very Gothic roof. The Roman temple is just at the rear and is in very good preserved order.

Barragem de Odivelas

Campsite from heaven, Markadia, no barking dogs and a beautiful lake. Great weather and we managed to get the canoe out for the first time. Sarah went swimming and i went fishing, caught two whoppers, at least 4 inches long.

Aljezur

Aljezur was a typical old town with a Moorish Castle at the top. Very pretty village overlooking the river estuary. It was once a harbour and busy port during Roman times but the estuary has long since silted up and the river is no longer navigable. The only thing we saw swimming in it was a snake.
Popped down to the Atlantic coast and saw the arrival of the Bee eaters and watched the surfers.
