The three fingers of Chalkidiki comprise of Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos. Our first port of call is Kassandra. This finger has unfortunately been overdeveloped. The motorway style road which leads you down the middle of the peninsular doesn't do it any favours. The fishing harbour of Nea Fokea has kept a little of its old charm.
Driving over the hills was a bit quieter and less developed. We reached the village of Possidi and the weather turned stormy so we headed back to camp.
Another day, another peninsular, this time Sithonia. Sithonia is more mountainous and forested than its neighbour and maybe because of this less touristy. We stayed at camping Melissi near Sikia and again used the scooter to investigate the local spots. We skirted the coast visiting many small deserted bays.
We reached Toroni with its Byzantine castle ruins.
The bays here are surrounded by greenery and not a hotel in sight.
We reached our turning point at Neo Marmaras and then a long journey back to camp with a coffee stop on the way at one of the high points overlooking the area around Sikia.
The next day was beautiful so instead of donning all our motorbike gear we walked from the site to the point close by and Sarah had a dip in the crystal clear waters.
From our campsite we can see our next destination, Mount Athos.
