We move eastwards, along the edge of the Central Balkan Range and along the valleys filled with roses grown for the rose oil perfumery industry
We reach the pretty town of Koprivshitisa with its wonderful 19thC houses designed and built by craftsmen from Plovdiv.
The town was also home to several revolutionaries and it was here that in April 1876 that they rose against the Turks. The church of Sveta Bogoroditsa rang its bell to announce the beginning of the uprising. The church like many other Christian churches in Bulgaria was built slightly sunken into the ground to comply with Ottoman regulations and it did not have a bell tower, this was added in 1896.
Kableshlov House was home to the leader of the April Rising.
Lyutov House, typical Plovdiv architecture.
A mix of Ottoman style benches and European furniture.
We spend a peaceful night in the local car park.
