When we arrived at the top of the gorge the gate to the walk was locked but with advice from the local cafe owner we climbed the gate and started our walk down rock steps hewn out of the cliff. On the way down we got a good view of the cave necropolis (11th-9th century BC) which had in excess of 80,000 tombs! We reached the base of the gorge but due to the high water level we were unable to cross the river. This was a spectacular gorge well worth the walk down.
